ARDMORE, Okla. — The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation's 2008-2009 Explorations in Science speaker series has examined the prehistoric (dinosaurs) and the massive (hurricanes) but it will conclude with a look at the futuristic and microscopic world of nanotechnology.
Mike Santos, Ph.D., professor at the University of Oklahoma and faculty member of the Center for Semiconductor Physics in Nanostructures, will present Nanoscience: Evolution and Revolution as the final presentation in this year's Explorations' season. Santos will discuss this 21st century science and how it holds the potential to forever change medicine, computers and many other aspects of everyday life.
"This is absolutely amazing science that could revolutionize our world, especially when you consider the size of material being researched," said Marilyn Roossinck, Ph.D., Explorations in Science organizer and a professor in the Noble Foundation's Plant Biology Division. "To compare a nanometer to a meter would be like comparing a marble to the Earth."
Santos' presentation, which will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at the Ardmore Convention Center, is open to the public and offered at no cost, courtesy of the Noble Foundation. A reception will follow the event.
